Reflecting, my hairdressing journey actually started way before I became a professional stylist. When I was at nursery I was asked to draw what I want to be when I grow up, I drew myself as hairdresser! Maybe it was the influence of my dearest mother who was to blame for this choice and this journey. My mother is also a hairdresser and so it runs in the family.
25 years later and I’m privileged to still be doing the job I love. People who know me well understand that I am a driven and ambitious individual who embraces challenges and often pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
I started my first job as hairdresser in Lithuania and 8 years later I knew I needed a new challenge. So I decided to move to Ireland where I learnt many new things in a different culture and environment. I learnt many styling techniques from how to blow dry that beautiful frizzy hair (I have soft spot for the Irish) but also how to speak English properly, with an Irish twang of course! A year later I returned to Lithuania to finish my business degree. After receiving my diploma, the next day I flew to London which is where I have always wanted to be.
Within 10 days of being in London, I landed a wonderful job at Toni & Guy. I have much to thank Toni & Guys for, I leant so much attending their academy, working at the salon and just interacting with clients. I loved every single experience, even those that challenged me. During my time at Toni & Guy, I volunteered to work at London Fashion Week so I could work with the most talented hairdressers in the country. I gained so much from these events and made so many good lifelong friends and connections.
I then worked in several top salons across London and gained much experience. After 16 years in the industry, I had to take a hiatus as I experienced problems with my wrists, so needed to re-evaluate and see what I could do in an industry I was not ready to leave. I re-qualified as an educator and became a hairdressing educator/ senior assessor for a very well-known salon chain. The teaching really pushed me out of comfort zone again. Teaching NVQ in front of class of students, in English, wasn’t easy but it was an amazing experience.
It is not only difficult to count how many courses I have attended but also any list would be limitless. I have had the privilege of being afforded so many opportunities to gain the knowledge and experience that I have. The one qualification that I am most proud of is attaining my L’Oréal Colour Degree. I also got through to the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Semi Finals three times and took part in many salon competitions and photoshoots.
Then everything changed. Our twins arrived and parenthood put my career on hold. Luckily with support of my amazing husband, I was able to see my regular clients as well as juggle motherhood. Now the twins started school, it is time for me to take my mobile hairdressing business to the next level.
